Virtual turn for drivers
TEENS itching to get their driver’s licence are being taught about road safety in a new online program.
The Steer Right program was developed in response to fears from road safety experts and school principals that teens were missing out on driver education during lockdown.
The not-for-profit Fit to Drive Foundation is behind the initiative along with Victoria Police and the MFB.
“We are really concerned about how some young people are acting out with less traffic on the road,” Fit to Drive CEO Georgia Symmons said.
“They are putting their lives and those of others in danger.”
Werribee Secondary College teacher Roberta Bakotic said, “We are pretty excited that we can continue the same sort of message for youngsters in making good decisions on our roads.”

The Fit to Drive Foundation is honoured to welcome Dale Armstrong, Director of Emergency Management at Ambulance Victoria, as a Road Safety Ambassador, completing the trio of emergency services – Police, Fire and Ambulance – working together to champion road safety in Victoria. who are dedicated to helping young Victorians make safer choices on the road.
Fit To Drive Foundation was launched in 2002 after 7 young people lost their lives in an 18-month period in Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula. Community members including principals, teachers, parents and students banded together as they recognised the urgent need for a new approach to road safety education. What followed was the introduction of our first program, the F2D Year 11 Workshop.
